JoAnn Krapp and I, two Long Island Indy Authors, have been visiting Indy Bookstores this summer. You can see our first installment at
Summertime is a great time to find the treasures and surprises found in a bookstore. It’s a cool way to beat the heat too.
With the number and variety of parks and beaches on Long Island, many residents and visitors have a favorite place to savor the joys of a fine book outdoors. And there is no lack of “summer reads.”
Our recent visit was to The Next Chapter, located north of Rte. 25A on Rte. 110 in Huntington. Its convenient location has lots of parking, one of the drawbacks of its progenitor, The Book Revue.
It’s by far the most eclectic Indy bookstore.
You can find everything from vintage books, secondhand books and shiny new bestsellers. There is an extensive vinyl selection providing some nostalgia as patrons have provided albums from their collections.
There is a vast selection of books of all genres cleverly displayed in cozy nooks throughout the store with comfy seating arrangements. The store seems to go on and on in a labyrinthine fashion. Music nights, guest authors, literary competitions for local writers, opportunities provided for Indy authors to sell their books and other features make this a comprehensive literary and cultural experience reflecting the tastes of Long Islanders. Sign up for their newsletter to get a more detailed idea of what The Next Chapter offers. Give yourself plenty of time for your visit. You will enjoy the experience and will want to revisit this unique bookstore again and again. By JoAnn Krapp and Linda Maria Frank
