Art Crime is an estimated six billion, yes, that’s b for billion, dollar a year transnational crime. It is number four on the transnational crime list, after drug trafficking, money laundering, and illegal arms trafficking. The stolen and forged art is used as collateral to raise money for terrorism and its associated crimes. The six billion dollar price tag includes only the reported crimes. It is impossible to put a price tag on the destruction and pillaging of archaeological sites and human history destroyed by ISIS and other terrorist groups in the Middle East conflicts.
